Gums are important

Gum disease is prevented by having a good oral hygiene regime which particularly cleans those areas between our back teeth which we cannot get to with normal tooth brushing. These are areas where bugs flourish and cause chronic damage to the gum and bone holding the teeth solid.

Even the best brusher should also use floss or a single tufted brush to clean between the back teeth in addition to their normal brushing regime. Once there are gaps between the back teeth -more usually in mature mouths - then proximal brushes can be used.

The biggest single risk factor for a person suffering from gum disease is smoking. As well as increasing risk of mouth cancer and bad breath, smoking changes the bacteria in the mouth and gum disease becomes much worse.
