Tony Fodor - The Friendly Dentist! BDS Cardiff University 1982

Tony qualified BDS from Cardiff in 1982, and 2 years later took over the dental practice opposite the police station in Porthcawl. Having always been a patient-centred dentist, by 1987 the practice was expanding dramatically and Tony moved the practice to larger premises closer to the centre of Porthcawl Town on Hillsboro Place. In 2008 Tony changed the previous boring name of the Practice to 'U Smile' though the Team and high standards remained unchanged.

Tony is enthusiastic about maintaining the highest standards of providing dentistry to people throughout his Practice, and especially the issue of providing concerned care to all patients. He takes a particular interest in saving teeth instead of extracting them and says he really enjoys winning the trust of nervous patients - who often then come to the dentist smiling and relaxed.

At U Smile Tony has developed a genuinely patient-centred practice where customer service and high quality dentistry will always (always!) come first.

Although he's not one to blow his own trumpet, here are some of Tony's professional accolades:

In 2003, Tony's Practice was the first in Bridgend County Borough to achieve the Investors in People Standard and remained part of the scheme for several years. This has been allowed to expired to prioritise standards more relevant to patients.
He has been approved as a Denplan Excel Practitioner between 2008 and 2011: widely considered one of the highest quality assurance standards in British dentistry. Having now chosen to pursue the more patient-popular BDA Good Practice standard, he has left Denplan's Excel programme, and is in the process of achieving this new quality assurance standard from the British Dental Association with the rest of his U Smile team.
For 7 consecutive years, he was re-selected by Cardiff University as a Trainer and Mentor for newly qualified dentists
He presently represents dentists in the Bridgend County Borough, having been re-elected several times as a representative on the Local Dental Committee for the past 10 years.

Of course Tony is not just a dentist - he is also a strongly Christian family man, who brings his ethics into the Practice; and also a qualified kayaking coach.
